How is public health changing? What are the trends you see that will shape the field in the coming years?

Trends in public health tend to follow emerging health problems of the world. So, we’re seeing more focus on issues related to stress, globalization, cultural competence, climate change and emerging infectious resistant diseases.

Increasing globalization will force us to be much more concerned about world health than we have in the past. We know there are no borders when it comes to communicable disease. Responding to threats both human caused whether it’s: wars, violence or terrorism, and environmental caused such as: natural disasters related to climate change, will continue to be important topics for public health. In addition, we’re going to need strong advocates for public health. And we need to do a better job about telling our story about how much we do to protect and promote the health of the public.
